At Soul Shine Creatives, we believe there’s a deep and natural connection between mindfulness and art.

Art comes in many forms, drawing, painting, music, sculpting, writing, and so much more. Each of these creative expressions invites us into a state of presence, where we can focus our attention on the moment at hand.

Art is intuitively mindful

Mindfulness, at its core, is about being fully present. When we use art as a mindfulness tool, we create an accessible and engaging way to quiet the mind and channel our energy into the creative process. This is why mindfulness-based art practices are increasingly recognised as effective forms of therapy, particularly for young people. In these approaches, the focus is not on the final product but on the act of creating itself.

Art is an intuitive way to practice mindfulness. The colors, textures, and repetitive motions of making something – whether it’s a drawing, a painting, or even a simple doodle – naturally draw us into the present moment. You don’t need to be an artist to experience this. All it takes is a willingness to engage, explore, and create with curiosity – just as a child would.

How mindfulness supports children

Bringing mindful art into the classroom gives students a practical, hands-on experience that supports emotional regulation. Whether they’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or restless, engaging in a mindful art activity can help them slow down, focus, and find a sense of calm. These creative strategies are simple, effective, and easy to apply anywhere, at school, at home, or whenever a moment of stillness is needed.

To help you introduce mindfulness through art, we’ve put together some mindful art colouring in activities that require minimal supplies. Just print them out and grab some coloured pencils or textas to get started. Try one, or try them all!

Let’s create, connect, and be present.
